The Lombards (or Longobards) came from Scandinavia during the VI century, and dominated the whole Italy, from the Alps to Puglia, during the following three centuries. They completely integrated with Italian people: they converted to Christianity, and built numerous churches and monasteries.
Yet, not everybody knows that until the 6th century churches didn’t have any tower bell : it was a Lombard “invention”!
