In 1997, the municipalities of eleven enchanting art cities of the Po Valley, Alessandria, Bologna, Brescia, Cremona, Lodi, Mantua, Modena, Parma, Pavia, Piacenza, Reggio Emilia and Verona, decided to created a network.
These cities by the Po river are very well linked up by roads and railways, and also by the airports of Bologna, Bergamo, Brescia, Verona and Parma.

Through this network, the Art Cities of the Po Valley, which are situated in four of the most important Italian regions (Lombardy, Emilia Romagna, Piedmont and Veneto), offer art and culture to all the visitors who are looking for new routes across exciting places and tastes.
Although they offer great tourist amenities, these precious historical centres are not museums in the open crowded by tourists; rather, they are places where it is possible to admire the architectural beauties very quietly and, most of all, get to know the art city in its present times..
